Feds deny more visas for 'specialized' foreign workers

Foreign employees of U.S. companies are having a harder time getting into the country under a specialized visa category, according to a report being released Wednesday.
About 35% of petitions by American companies to bring to the U.S. employees working overseas who have a "specialized knowledge" in their fields were denied in 2014 by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the fourth straight year that figure has risen. The denial rate for those visas, known as L-1B visas, was as low as 6% in 2006, according to the report from the National Foundation for American Policy, an immigration advocacy group. U.S. deports people eligible for immigration relief, lawyers say

U.S. immigration authorities are detaining people considered of low priority or who qualify for the immigration relief announced by President Barack Obama, according to the American Immigration Lawyers Association, known as AILA.

"We have received reports from immigration lawyers in different parts of the country that ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) officials are not implementing the memo (about the president's executive orders) or they do it inconsistently and at their discretion," the director of AILA Legal Services, Greg Chen, told Efe. Deporting Beneficiaries Of Obama's Immigration Action Would Cost $50.3 Billion: Report

WASHINGTON -- Deporting the estimated 5 million undocumented immigrants who could benefit from deportation-relief policies that Republicans are trying to block would have a hefty price, according to a report released Monday from the left-leaning Center for American Progress.

White House Asks Court to Allow Immigration Plan to Proceed

AUSTIN, Texas—The Obama administration on Monday asked a Texas federal judge to allow it to continue implementing the president’s immigration plan, which the judge temporarily blocked last week.
The Department of Justice filed a request with the federal judge to stay his earlier injunction, which temporarily blocked the Department of Homeland Security’s rollout of its immigration program, while it appeals the injunction.
